Women for Women Opportunity Center
The Women for Women Opportunity Center is a training facility in Kayonza, Rwanda that works with up to 500 “moms-in-training” daily on everything from childcare to nutrition to small businesses. The integration of rain-harvesting tanks serves both as the primary source of water for the training center and acts an example of self-reliance and local sustainability that the women can replicate at home on a smaller scale.
At the epicenter of the sustainable-design campus is the water system, which incorporates a multi-pronged approach including rain-harvesting, solar energy, and erosion-preventing drainage that feeds water into the fields below the campus. The facility was outfitted with two 40,000 liter underground rain-harvesting tanks which are attached to a solar pump and piped to a small "water-tower” on the facility grounds where it’s gravity fed to all necessary points. The entire facility is designed be a model of sustainability for everyone who visits.
